FAQs

What services do you offer?

At Carolina 3D Print Studio, we provide:

  • Product Design – Turn your idea into a ready-to-print 3D model.

  • Prototyping – Test and validate your invention or business idea.

  • Small-Batch Production – Create from 1 to 100+ custom units.

We work with businesses, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, and families to bring ideas to life.

What is 3D printing?

3D printing is a manufacturing process that builds objects layer by layer from digital designs. Instead of cutting or molding material, it adds material only where needed, making it efficient and highly customizable.

What materials can you print with?

We primarily print with PLA and PETG plastics, which are strong, versatile, and safe for most uses. Specialty materials like wood-infused filaments, flexible plastics, and stronger options are also available depending on the project.

How strong are 3D printer parts?

3D printed parts can be surprisingly durable, especially when designed correctly. While not always as strong as injection-molded plastics, we adjust settings like infill percentage, layer height, and material choice to meet your strength needs.

Can you make production-ready parts?

Yes! While 3D printing is often used for prototyping, it’s also a great option for short-run or custom production. We specialize in small-batch production (1–100+ units) for businesses, events, and personal use.

Do I need to know how to design in 3D software?

Not at all! You can bring us a sketch, idea, or existing file. Our design services can transform your concept into a print-ready 3D model.

How long does it take to get something printed?

It depends on size, complexity, and quantity. Simple projects can be done in 1–2 days, while larger or custom batches may take longer. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.

How much does 3D printing cost?

Pricing depends on:

  • Material used

  • Machine run time

  • Design/engineering time (if needed)

We provide upfront quotes so you know exactly what to expect before production begins.

Common misconceptions about 3D printing?

  1. “It’s just for toys or trinkets.”
→ Actually, 3D printing is widely used in engineering, medicine, aerospace, and product design. We create everything from business prototypes to home gadgets.

  2. “It’s instant like a photocopier.”
→ Printing takes time! Even small objects may take hours to print, depending on detail and quality.

  3. “It’s too expensive.”
→ For small runs and custom designs, 3D printing is often cheaper than traditional manufacturing because there are no molds or big setup costs.
